Why VetMatch for your program
A better pipeline for
student experience

Your students are resourceful — but "cold email a clinic and hope" is not a system. VetMatch gives them a real tool and gives you confidence in where they're going.

Invitation-Only Practices*
Every practice on VetMatch is onboarded by invitation and reviewed before their profile goes live. Your students are not browsing a scrape of random listings — they're seeing practices that chose to be here and are actively looking to mentor students.
Complements Your Curriculum
VetMatch is built for elective and supplementary experience — externships, shadowing, short-term placements, and early-career internships. It fills the gap that required clinical rotations and formal placement systems leave behind.
Always Free for Students
There is no cost, no subscription, and no paywall for students. Account creation takes under two minutes. Recommend it without worrying about access barriers — every student at your school can use VetMatch from day one.
Geographic Reach Beyond Your Region
Students at programs in smaller markets often exhaust local options quickly. VetMatch lets them search nationwide — finding externships in specialties, geographic areas, or practice types they simply couldn't access through local word-of-mouth alone.
No Integration Required
You don't need to connect your student information system or run a pilot program. Simply point your students to VetMatch. They create their own profiles, manage their own applications, and handle their own communication with practices.
Mentorship-Oriented Practices Only
Practices that join VetMatch do so because they want to teach — not because they need free labor. Our onboarding process screens for clinics genuinely invested in student development. You can recommend VetMatch knowing the bar for practice quality is real.

* Invitation-only onboarding applies during the early access period. As VetMatch grows, access will expand — while maintaining the same review standards for all practices joining the network.

Common questions
What program directors ask us
Does VetMatch replace our school's externship coordination process?
No. VetMatch is an independent tool for students to find elective experience opportunities — externships, shadowing, and supplementary placements. It is not connected to your school's systems and is not designed to replace required clinical rotations or formally coordinated placements. It fills the space between structured curriculum and what students can find on their own.
How are practices vetted before they can post on VetMatch?
All practices go through an invitation-only onboarding process. We review practice information and require named supervising veterinarians before an account is approved. There are no anonymous or unverified listings — every posting is tied to a real practice profile with a real contact. We reserve the right to remove practices that don't maintain our standards for mentorship quality.
Is there any cost to our institution or our students?
VetMatch is free for every student — no subscription, no credit card, no paywall. There is also no cost to your institution to recommend VetMatch or to formalize a partnership. Practices pay for premium features; students and partner schools do not.
What information about our students is shared with practices?
Practices can see a student's full name, school, current year, declared specialty interests, uploaded resume, and their optional cover note. Personal contact information — email address and phone number — is only shared after a practice extends a formal offer and the student accepts it through the platform.
What if a student has a problem at a practice?
Students can report concerns through the platform at any time. We take every report seriously and review flagged practices. Any practice found to be misrepresenting their program, treating students unprofessionally, or failing to provide a genuine educational experience is removed from the network. We encourage students to communicate with their school's academic coordinator in parallel with any platform-level report.
How is VetMatch different from our school's existing practice database?
Most school placement resources are static lists that require staff to maintain and are limited to relationships your program has already built. VetMatch is a live marketplace — practices actively manage their own listings, update availability in real time, and receive applications directly. Students see actual open spots, not outdated contacts. VetMatch also extends reach to practices your school doesn't have existing relationships with, expanding geographic and specialty options for your students.
Can we refer practices from our existing partner network to VetMatch?
Yes, and we encourage it. Partner schools can refer trusted practices directly — we fast-track their onboarding review so they're accessible to your students quickly. This is one of the most meaningful ways a school can contribute to the quality of the VetMatch network.
